Background Noise

I hear a lot about the evils of Television… But I like TV and call me antagonistic or provocative or whatever (trust me I’ve been called worse) but maybe if you don’t like TV then you’re using it the wrong way. I like TV. I like the background noise that muffles out the sounds that I don’t want to hear… Sounds drifting in from the street outside – other people’s hustle and bustle that holds no interest for me. I like that TV drowns that out and I like that I can easily zone out the sound of the TV and I like that sometimes even when I think I’m fully absorbed in something else, a few words break through that sound out loudly and resonate in a way that makes me stop what I’m doing to ponder on why those sounds grabbed my attention.

I was in the process of clearing my desk and heading to bed when TV words bounced my ears… The phrase that came through was:

Bringing the sacred and the profane together

It sounded like an instant tarot spread being gifted to me so I wrote down the phrase so I wouldn’t forget it. By that point I’d forgotten I was heading to bed and instead I pulled out The Magical Nordic Tarot

1. The Sacred – The Magician

2. The Profane – The Wheel of Fortune

3. Bringing them together – 8 of Cups

Cards down, I found it interesting that I sat looking at my soul card (Magician) and personality card (W of F). I’ll not bore you with my thoughts on those, I’m sure if you’re here, then you can most probably read for yourself. (And if you don’t know tarot, then just look and make something up. It really is that easy… Say what you see…)

The 8 of Cups bringing together… Uniting my body and soul? I guess that’s one way of looking at it… But I spy the word doorways and it’s a good reminder to walk away from things/situations that can’t be fixed. When things fall apart, the only pieces I need to pick up are my parts…

I cast my eye back to the image in The Wheel of Fortune and it reminds of me playing around around a week or so ago with What’s in a Web – one of the images from the OO (formerly D. O.) so I’ll drop that here…

      2. Well, it’s a good job my new desk chair just arrived. I need to put it together so I’m guessing in less than an hour I’ll either have proof or a bruised arse… OK, I have cushions… Where did I put that gaffa tape? 🤣

      4. Good point! I have no shortage of cushions, I can’t find gaffs tape, so maybe just throw down a crashmat and then it doesn’t really matter which way up I land. 🤔 💩🌹🌹🌹

  2. Chair is up and running. No crashmat needed. Proof acquired? Almost but not quite. Most round things go in round holes except for the one little stubborn MF who just keeps flying back out again and flatly refuses to fit in… 🤣

  4. Not sure if I can put an image in here, but just in case I can’t, here’s the interpretation of the cards I drew from the Llewellyn Tarot for your spread: Emperor, Ace of Swords, Hanged Man. Usually, the Emperor seems more about the profane than the sacred, so maybe the sacred masculine needs a new focus (since we all have both masculine and feminine within). And the Hanged Man says to take a different angle on the value of the masculine to pull tradition and innovation together.

    Or, we go with the karmic sacrifice role of the Hanged Man and say that it’s time to sacrifice the masculine and create a new idea of melding masculine and feminine together into their whole again.

  5. Yes, they are all interesting thoughts. I like those a lot.
    I managed to pull your image up and that was an interesting coincidence as I had just been sitting looking at a photograph I took this morning in the grounds of Walsingham Abbey. The photo is of the remains of the ruins and is a huge arch much as in your HM card. I’d just been wondering why it is that the arches always seem to be the only part left standing… I was thinking about how many churches got destroyed under Henry VIII, yet all these years on, people travel to see what remains…

    1. I wonder if the arches are naturally stronger or something. I remember from my touristy wanderings in various ruins in the 1980s when I lived in the UK. From my point of view as an American, it was like being able to touch history. I also admired the masons and architects who built these structures, even though the cathedrals and churches were to serve a very unenlightened social and religious order, both before and after their destruction. 🙂

      1. I think they must be naturally stronger. Bridges are pretty much glorified arches…
        Yes, it also fascinates me to think of the masons and architects and how many hours were spent. I like to touch the stones and sometimes it feels that they’ve stored all the words they’ve heard over the years and some echo through…
        Yup religious disorder remains pretty constant throughout past and present! 😂
