Weathering the storm…

As a child, I used to hang out a lot with the Hermit… He was a safe haven from the storms of life that swirled around…

A quite escape from the screaming and shouting…

A blanket of blankness with which to wrap my small head when faced with the questionsย …

Who do you want to live with? You need to choose… I need to know… It needs to be decided now… Will you stay or go?

I’d never answer as I knew my answer was not one that would be welcomed or even heard…

I choose to live alone, I’d say silently in my mind… All alone somewhere far away in a lighthouse with crashing waves… and star filled skies…

somewhere where I can hear my thoughts and not your angry words…

But times marches on and things change and you move… and sometimes you forgot your oldest and wisest friends…

You start to need them less…

But then something jogs your memory and you find you’ve not forgotten them…

I checked in with the Hermit today…

Hey Hermit! How’s tricks?

Same as it ever was… Same as it ever was…

Hermit… For someone who never had anything to say… you suddenly have a lot to sing… When did you get so funny?

I’ve always been funny… I’m just often mis-diagnosed as a humourless old bastard… But we go back way too far for you not to know me and see me as I am… Anyway child… what brings you across my path today…

Oh… I don’t know H… nostalgia maybe… and well… I could do with a breather… life’s been pretty up and down of late…

Yeah… so what?

So what…? Is that the most useful thing you have to say?

Meh… OK… Let me shine the light of my wisdom and illuminate you… There’s no such thing as the wrong weather… Only the wrong clothes…

Yeah… but H man… you’ve only got one set of clothes…

Exactly!

Exactly?

Yes… know when to wear your robes loose and when to wrap them tight…

Mmmm….

Shall we walk?

Sure… but let’s not talk…

Oh… I was hoping you’d say that…

Ha! I’ve missed you H ๐Ÿ˜‰

  1. Awww! Wonderful! Yeah, I remember needing escape from yelling (although not all the time, like some folks). I escaped into science fiction, myself. Hadn’t been acquainted with folks like the Hermit at that time. Hope you two had a lovely reunion.

    1. It’s only with retrospect that I realise that it was the Hermit… At the time it was just somewhere in my head that I disappeared into… Now teens… Ha! Yes… Many hours swept away in SciFI ๐Ÿ˜€ A Robert Heinlein tucked away inside my text book whilst I feigned studinous ๐Ÿ˜€

      1. Didn’t read Heinlein until later. Grew up with Andre Norton’s sf and Witch World, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Isaac Asimov, Bradbury, etc. Couldn’t really grok in fulness until I got to be 42. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      2. Ah, yes, it was fun being the answer to the ultimate question in the Guide, at least for a year. I got most of my Hitchhiker fix from the TV series, I believe. Might have read the trilogy also. I’m also a fan of Star Trek (watched the first episodes when they came out in 1966) and Star Wars (a mind-blowing philosophical transformation for me in 1977). Got any more SF stuff you’ve been into?

      3. Ah… Star Trek… now that’s Mr S’s territory… I’ve died on it as he takes it to overkill and he will watch over and over and over again… I every so often watch… but more down to the fact that I like to annoy him by singing made up words over the opening credits and music… ๐Ÿ˜€ Star Wars… now I remember queuing round the block to see it at cinema and we eventually got tickets to come back a couple of showings later… That was the peak of my excitement with it really and final nail in the coffin was Jar Jar Binks ๐Ÿ˜€ The one SF thing I did get quite sucked into was Farscape… though may have had less to do with the Sci Fi and more to do with my idle musings as to how I’d pass my time if lost in space with John Crichton and D’Argo… LOL TMI TMI TMI ๐Ÿ˜€

      4. Can’t resist revisiting the sf thing. I like Mr. S. He has good taste! And yes, many disappointments with the more recent Star Wars stuff. Mr. Lucas seems to have forgotten that the story is the most important bit. I never saw Episode III, I think it was. Must check out Farscape…haven’t heard of that one.

    2. He is pretty ok that Mr S ๐Ÿ˜€ Yes… Farscape was around 2000. I used to love the makeup/effects … I’ve just googled it to refresh my memory and discovered there are talks of making a movie… I’ll be watching out for that ๐Ÿ˜‰
