The faces change, the stories stay the same…
That’s one of those phrases that I don’t quite recall when I first started using… I may have invented it, I may have poached it somewhere along the line… I truly don’t know…
Though what I do know is that every so often it floats through my head and these days it brings with it a wry smile. In the past it would lead me down an avenue of questions… why? why is this happening again? what’s this all about?
Now these days, when those words roll through my brain, I realise that I’ve just spotted a pattern that I’ve seen before… And in the past I still had some naive optimism that this time things would work out differently…
In the past, I’ve scratched my head and asked others for advice and they’ve offered forth such words as – keep your friends close and your enemies closer…
But that’s a phrase that I don’t much care for…
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer…
See to me they sound like the words of someone who’s packing a harpoon… of someone who doesn’t mind smelling like a chum bucket…
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer…
Thanks but no thanks!
The only thing that that sounds close to to me, is to some kind of bizarre form of self harm…
I turned to The Gorgon’s Tarot… it seems quite adept at handling snakes…

The Hanged One and The Ace of Swords…
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer? Really Sweety? Are you sure you want to do that? Sure you can hang out with them if you like and convince yourself that you are watching and observing to see where things are going. You can convince yourself that you are learning their tricks but whilst you think that you are toying with them like a kitten toys with a mouse before going for the kill… well maybe you should double check that that viper isn’t moving slowly and steadily closer… moving in to strike with a lethal dose. It may well be fun in a tongue-in-cheek kind of way but you play a risky game. Surely it is better to cut clean away and to spend your time with people on the same level who see eye to eye with you and speak the truth… The decision is yours…
I’ve never liked that phrase either. Seems to me that it is suggesting you have to be someone rather unpleasant and not at all genuine to maintain a fake closeness with an enemy.
