Are We Not More Than The Either Or..?

I’m fairly tired of late… I feel as though I’m constantly being asked to weigh one thing up against another… to analyse… to appraise… to assess… Which is best? Or should that be …. Which is worse?

And what tires me is the whole versus thing…

Spirituality  VS Religion

Positive VS Negative

Science VS Magic

 Nature VS Nurture

What’s with this whole versus thing? By the very nature of the phrasing it immediately implies that one is right and one is wrong… oops! There’s another one…

Right VS Wrong

And I guess it’s just people trying to make sense of the world we live in by creating some sort of model or framework to hang their thoughts, ideas, feelings and emotions on…

But why the either/or duality and the polarising to opposite ends of the spectrum?

Why do we want to split things into clean halves? Especially when we talk about things so often in terms of 3 being the magic number… and often when we look to bring things together, we’re looking for the synergy that is created where 1 + 1 = 3…

We look for where the sum of the parts is greater than the whole…

In an either/or debate… I refuse to pick a side… unless of course it’s live or die… but even then I reserve the right to change my mind at will depending on circumstances…

But generally I’m not interested in the Black or White and I’m more than happy to roam in the Grey…

N.B. not to scale...
N.B. not to scale…

Or wander off into the purple…

Purple?

Yeah… all the unknowns…

The purple… That enormous beach full of sand stretching into infinity where just one grain represents all that is known…

Why?

Because… I think…

When we strive to become more than just the sum of our parts…

Then we tend towards becoming a greater soul…

What do you think?

  1. Voting for the purple here. And considering the VS to be this mostly rather humorous game we humans play with the illusion we call reality. 🙂
