Much to the long suffering Mr S’s chagrin, I often wake up of a morning singing… yeah… before I’ve even opened my eyes, noises leak from my lips… And often I am unaware of this and later Mr S will remind me of it…
So… apparently this morning, Mr S instead of an alarm call, was treated (and I use that term in the loosest and vaguest of ways… π ) to my rendition of this…
Which amused me and I didn’t think too much of it as I’ve spent the last few days working on a piece of writing for a company who asked me to put together an article about how gettingΒ a psychic reading can change your life…
So… I just put it down to my brain defragging…
Though when I opened my email to find the topic of the blog challenge to be…
How do you use your spiritual Gifts to change lives and make a difference?
That got me thinking all over again…
Now… I can bore you for a month of Sundays on why I think a psychic reading can change your life but I’ll spare you…
As the question that came to me was – yeah… sure I see how what I do works… but is that the same as how my spirituality changes lives?
And when you ask me how my spirituality changes lives… well for that I feel I have no clear answer…
As really… How can we ever fully know?
It feels to be akin to trying to comprehend the ‘Butterfly effect’
And often I’ve found that I’ve helped people in ways that I hadn’t even realised or set out to…
Sometimes it’s not until someone gets in touch with you a lot further down the line to tell you how they feel you’ve helped them to make changes that you can even begin to realise…
And the effect you have on people is not always what you imagine it to be…
Recently I was quite surprised… There’s a group ofΒ girls that I go out to charity events with and usually I go and tarot read but this time they asked me if I’d do some stand-up and compere the event…
I thought Yay! Brilliant! No kit to carry! (yeah… I am lazy… π ) and I emailed back and asked – What time do you want me there?
And this is the bit that surprised me…
Can you turn up an hour early? You have a calming influence on everybody…
Now I’ve never really considered myself to be a calming influence as I’ve always been that person who never shuts up… So I said – Really? How’s that?
Oh… people just like to sit and hear you talk rubbish and laughing…
Which makes me think that maybe your spiritual gifts are those things you just do without thinking… those things that seep out and leak onto those around you…
Does that change other people?
I don’t know?
Another thing that springs to mind is a letter I got a couple of years back which said on it…
Karen! Thank you for catalysing my resurgence!
I remember thinking… what??? I’ve not done anything… I have no idea what you mean… But it’s not my place to tell someone else how or what to think… to assign value or merit…
I do know that while I am prepared to make my own changes, I have no desire to change other people…
Though… catalyse…
Yeah… I now see how that can happen…
A conversation with me may just catalyse some changes for you… it may just speed up what you already knew you wanted to change…
I don’t want to decide your changes… though IΒ am happy to hold your hand and keep you company while you make them yourself…
But first, you’ve got to want to change…
Great post! I think often we aren’t even really aware what our true gifts are, or we dismiss them too lightly. Being a good listener and calming people down…fantastic gifts! Thank you for making me think about what my gifts really are.

I think when something comes really naturally to you, you just assume everybody does it… It is easy to overlook your own gifts π

This makes so much sense. It is easy for us to dismiss the things that we find easiest as perhaps not worthwhile, when in fact those things are incredibly valuable because only we can do/be exactly that way. We are in our flow. Thanks for a lovely post.

Thank you Harriet π I think it’s a complex issue why we dismiss things… Particularly when you come from a background where it’s just not the done thing to blow your own trumpet! π

Definitely know whereof you speak, Karen. Our influence is often subtle, but it’s cool to know that some folks really notice (“come and hour early”–I love it!). You bring up a good point about these gifts being so subtle; I’ve thought about trying to just “hold people’s hands” directly as a service, but it’s damned difficult to write “sales copy” for. These sorts of things fall into “psychic reading” cognitive boxes for people, and that sometimes comes with lots of other assumptions that don’t fit me. Coaching doesn’t fit either. I figure the subtle energy influence will just be part of how my Tarot readings work. Tarot is a good tool, for me anyway, to channel that energy.
So, Karen, do you do anything like a “straight” psychic/intuitive guidance thing, or do you always use cards?

Lol it is damn hard! But I’m sure I saw a few days ago that someone had set up a hugging service… I call myself Tarot reader but basically as that is easiest way to describe as no two readings are ever the same and people will make their own connections as to how you work… I find most people will say that I do with cards, what they do with their profession… Artists call me artist, coaches call me coach… etc etc… I don’t offer ‘straight’ reading… though interestingly many of my best readings have been done accidentally in conversation… When people talk to me, I tend to hear certain words jump out that trigger images or memories or random things… When I read cards for people it varies… Sometimes I have to go solely on the cards…. sometimes they are there but I don’t need to look at them… The fun one is when you talk and you’re a card ahead all the way…. Many times I sit and have a quick chat and will give my first impressions before turning a card and then turn first card… LOL and person looks worried because they’re not in on the joke yet… Then I say…Oh… OK… that’s everything I’ve just said…. and it tends to go through the whole spread like that… very often I preempt cards that are coming…. Go off at a tangent talking about another card…. and voila! π

Excellent, Karen. Lovely how you were shown how you change people’s lives simply by being there. That’s nice. π

Thanks Arwen π You know… I think that’s probably what we all do but we get caught up trying to find a ‘clever’ answer … when just being there is enough.
