A Promise Fulfilled…

June 2011… an interesting time… for all the wrong reasons…

I’d been trying to make the best of a bad situation for maybe around 9 months… Then I hit the point where enough was enough…

So… many words were spoken and I had someone predict to me where I’d be in a year’s time without them on my side…

I thought… oh… really? And then I made myself a promise…

Over the next few weeks, every time I walked out my back door, my garden would fill with dragonflies and they would come and land around me. The first couple of times I didn’t think too much of it other than to pause hanging out the washing to marvel at their jewel like colours… but as more and more arrived I started to wonder if it meant anything. I hit up Google and I remember reading something somewhere that dragonflies heralded a period of significant change that would take 3 years to complete…

And no sooner had I read that, than they stopped visiting…

So… today I go into my garden because it catches my eye how very very green it is out there… and it begins to rain… big fat drops of warm summer splashes and I stand there and breathe it in and feel the earth beneath my feet and then I glimpse a brightly coloured flash…

A dragonfly as big as my hand… bobbing and weaving through the rain and then landing in the jasmine…

I follow him and tell him he’s lucky that Woody doesn’t come out in the rain or he’d be a starter on a cat’s buffet…

He sits there and I stand with him and take in the heavy scent of the flowers that have been woken by the weather…

I hear Mr S shout me from the kitchen – What are you doing out there? I thought you were getting ready for work… You’ve been gone for over an hour…

Yeah… I am getting ready for work… I just need to have a quick word with someone…

Hey… Mr Dragonfly… What are you doing here?

It’s been 3 years Karen… You did it!

Yeah?

Yeah… Now make yourself a new promise for the next 3 years…
