Greetings! 🙂 So where did you come from?
Lynda Hardy ~ The Cauldron Born?
Alison Cross ~ This Game of Thrones?
Olivia Destrades ~ First Earth Tarot?
Well…
According to the incurable old romantic that is my husband…
Love is…
The feeling a man has for his Gibson…
Bless him…
Though you’ve got to admit, it’s not that easy to define…
Poets and Musicians wax lyrical about the ecstatic highs and desperate lows… Artists try to catch its many colours… Scientists pass it off as a chemical trick played on the brain to perpetuate the species… Philosophers…well they talk and talk and then talk some more… And the Mathematicians still fail to find the solution…

So… I turned to my cards to see if they could throw up a formula…
I paused to consider which deck to use… My first love…The Elemental? My latest squeeze…The Wild Unknown?
No… It can be only one… My one true love… The deck I love like I love no other…
Yup! It’s over to M 😀 Oh! M… Speak to me of love!
So this is what my M threw down… and yeah… I could write at length as to what those cards mean but I also love to play this little game… So… I popped over here… What muse amuses a muse? and substituted the word lyric for poem… And this is where I landed… Empedocles… which amused me greatly, particularly this sentence…
The four elements are eternally brought into union, and eternally parted from each other, by two divine powers, Love and Strife.
And I thought…mmmm…. that’s very interesting and very tarot… but it also throws up a tale from a Saturday night probably about 15 years ago…
So… at that time, I was mostly a band widow… And my tolerances for the excesses of the Rock ‘n’ Roll lifestyle would wear pretty thin when Mr S would Roll in at ungodly hours, Rock my peace and annoy the hell out of me, for reasons which I now no longer recall… So… this particular night, we had gotten into a massive argument and he flounces off upstairs declaring that he was leaving me!
I remember thinking… Oh yeah? Promises, promises… and muttering under my breath… yeah well… I’m keeping the cats and the car…
I went to put the kettle on thinking – Oh… He’ll just crash out… the kettle started to boil… he reappeared downstairs with 2 packed suitcases and stood in the middle of the living room and said –
Right! I’m off!
I said – Excuse me? Not with my bloody suitcases you’re not! Get your own…
He said – These are the only ones we’ve got, I’ll return them!
Now what I said next turned the air a spectacular shade of blue, whilst the contents of the suitcases were flung up the street, followed by Mr S being punted out the door… Then as a final parting shot, a roll of black bin liners bounced of his head…
Here! Use these to pack!
So for the second time, I head for the kettle… Then there is a knock at the door…
Karen? Karen? Let me in… I’ve got nowhere to go…
But you’re leaving me…
I don’t want to leave you, I want to come home…
So… what are we going to do?
Shall we start by promising to try to be nicer to each other?
Yeah… that’s a start…
So… for the third time, the kettle goes on and this time we sit and make a pact to stick together and not inflict our particularly peculiar brands of mutually compatible insanity on to any other living souls…
So… I guess you could say we stumbled into Empedocles cosmic cycle and decided to balance our Love and Strife to keep all our elements together…
I asked Mr S again the other day…
What is love?
He said… It’s you learning not to talk through Star Trek…
I said… Mmmmm… or maybe it’s…
counting all your good points, whilst resisting the urge to bounce things off your head…

😀
Right!
You can grab your bags and get out…
😀

Thanks Arwen… and I almost took that bit out, as I wondered if it was too much of a tongue twister… but then I thought hey! Love always has a place for a good twist of the tongue…. bwhahaha! 😀

This made me laugh – albeit a bit ruefully! Very real. And how fun that ultimately, he stayed because he didn’t have *enough* baggage to go. hah!

LOL… he still doesn’t have suitcases and mine are now also defunct… so neither have any baggage to leave with! 😀

Just as Arwen said – this reminded me so much of my own relationship with Tartarus. Mostly it consists of him talking about motorbikes or cranes and me not listening or me talking about Tarot and him not listening. But really, I would be lost without him. Luffly post!

Yup lost without him! You’re right on that 😀 I started calling my work ‘gigs’… that causes him to briefly pause and lift his head up to listen before… oooooh… more tarot…. 😀

Great story. My ex and I used to fight all the time and I would not have dared bounce a roll of bin bags off his head. But then, he is my ex and that was a toxic relationship, so completely no relation to your story anyway!

Oh.. that was the early days… we were pretty rubbish at fighting… and it gets old pretty quick once you know where all buttons are… Much better to know when to agree to disagree on things and skip straight to plan F… 😉

Great and strong story with heart and I could just feel the places! And, WHAT a great M-morph you evolved into the Mystereum 5 of Wands cards with the pot of gold emanating from what the kid sees that the competition is missing.
Wonderfully story of life here complete with wise and laughing lessons of tears and teas and chuckling, too.
Happy Hallowe’en and have a Spooktacular day, Karen! 🙂 xx

What a wonderful story! What is love if you can’t see the ridiculousness in one another and laugh about it later on. Humour is essential in any relationship. Love the bit about the bin bags lol!

Thanks Sharon 🙂 and LOL on the bin bags… I do get the odd flashback every so often when I pick up a roll… And in one little part of my mind, I recall the incident as me being this feisty, glamorous Sophia Loren type figure… Then a voice comes and goes who are you trying to kid? Get a grip! You looked more like the mad old cat woman off the Simpsons… 😀

Oh, totally brilliant, as usual. A gifted storyteller you are. Also, what Arwen said, and the counting of the good points whilst resisting…
My first marriage was a quiet one, but that was not necessarily the deepest or most fun way to go. The second one has more fire but also a better mix of all the elements, I would say, now I think about it. And each element holds both Love and Strife, I notice. Depends on where you take it.
Thanks. Wonderful stories and things to think on…:)

Thanks Joanne 🙂 Lol… yeah too quiet is not healthy 😀 I’m glad you enjoyed it, I’m always a bit should I/ shouldn’t I??? when I write about Mr S… I told him I’d written this and he said… Oh! You’re such a ******* liar! I don’t remember any of that! I said… well I do…
He said… really? when was it?
The 90s darling… you were drunk…
He said… mmmm… ok…. maybe…
