Blessed are the Grave Diggers…

For longer than I care to mention now, the airwaves have been full and loud with noise and words and over and over I hear the cries of don’t let anybody dim your light… now is your time to shine… or who are you not to shine? etc etc etc…

When did humility go out of fashion…

The world seems to be a very shouty place with messages of shout your message to get your message heard…

But words… well mostly words are just words and slip away into the ether or the eVoid of my spam box…

What is this obsession with standing centre stage all the time…

LOOK AT ME!!!

LISTEN TO ME!!!

I don’t know who said it or where it exactly comes from but I came across some Buddhist words about how things are in a temple… there are some who meditate and there are some who make the tea… and those who make the tea are revered as highly as the priests because… well them making the tea, allows the priest to sit and meditate for everyone…

Why are there so many brash people around banging their drums?

When did humble become such a dirty word?

What happened to actions speaking louder than words?

Some of my favourite people are grave diggers…

They do the shit that many don’t want to dirty their hands with…

I find them noble…

These sons of earth…

These horny handed sons of toil…

Who just quietly…

get on…

with what needs…

to be done…

They touch the earth and they touch my heart…

They are meek in the most wonderful way…

They are my shining stars…

Diggers everywhere…

My soulful soil mates…

I salute you!

  1. Pure and blessed (well, maybe mostly the latter, I hope): Thank you for putting a bit of light on the idea of service and support. I’m more the tea server than the meditator myself, and appreciate both roles. Gratitude, indeed, to the toilers who support me. 🙂

    1. I think service and support can often be undervalued yet really it’s the people who do these things that hold pretty much every other thing together.., take away the people who clean and fetch and carry and it’s not long before it’s missed and things start to fall apart. I like people who work and love what they do, I like to see people who are happy in their work and by work I mean whatever they spend their time doing with a sense of purpose… Actually I think I’ve just made a long winded round the house way of saying what you just said! 😀 A meritorious act is meritirious down to how it’s performed rather than the actual role… I think sometimes it’s good to remember that I can do things I want to do because someone else does the things I don’t want to do…
