I looked at today’s Waxing and laughed a little as it appears that the sea theme is still rolling in… I looked at what I see as big waves and to the left, the shape that looks like some kind of seaweed, maybe kelp? swept into motion by the tides… But then I hear music…

How odd…

I wonder what the music has to do with the image… when I look again at the wax, I see caught in the middle of the waves, a figure trying to paddle a boat up against the waves, using a broken paddle… The other side of the waves, I see a twinkly eye of a dolphin? Wait… no… not a dolphin, not with that snub nose… it’s a porpoise…

I laugh to myself as I hear the words in my mind… A Boston vowel strangler accent – Hey Man, what’s your purpose? Ok… Not a dolphin… not a porpoise but a purpose… The man is battling against the odds because he’s heading towards a purpose… He is aiming for something…

Often when people come looking for readings, it’s often because they want to make changes. I like those readings… Sometimes people come for readings and there’s a disingenuous undercurrent present…

They say that the secret to having a good reading is to have a good question and whilst in some cases that may be true and very helpful… It’s not a phrase I whole heartedly get on board with as I can think of many times where that’s horseshit and I also find it to be dismissive of the whizz bang accuracy that comes from on the spot readings where time is of the essence and you may have less than a minute to deliver something useful… Rather than the question, I think it’s more useful to bear in mind the teleology of the reading… or more precisely, the teleology of the Querent… what’s their porpoise/purpose?

Let me just think back to people seeking changes… Now sometimes, people come and tell me they want to make changes but they’re not sure what they need to do… That’s when I have to get my cards to get them to vocalise their goals out loud… The cards don’t tell them their goals, deep down, they already know that… the cards lay down the imagery so they can see clearly what they need to be aiming for… where they need to go. When this works well, it works very well as I never see these people again. Instead I get photos sent from different parts of the world as they meet their purpose… That’s something I love!

The more disingenous client is the one who claims they are seeking changes and that they don’t know what to do but infact, they know exactly what they want to do and have already set the ball in motion… They want the reading to validate their choices as being something that was fated rather than something done by design… Let’s give you a classic example and these types are not too hard to find as despite all the fashion for spirituality, the bulk of readings boil down to sex and money…

So… it’s usually though not exclusivley a woman, they’ll want to know if the man they are now seeing is their soulmate… That’s the faux question… They might say something like should I move in with him? Within minutes, you’re discovering this man is their boss or their best friend’s husband… And you know what? That’s none of my business, I’m there to read not judge… But then they start to fill in extra details such as how they can’t believe they worked with their boss for so many years and how they never ever found him at all sexually attractive, afterall, he is nearly old enough to be their father… yet suddenly, there was this spark of attraction and they realised they were soul mates… What do I think? What do my cards say?

Well, now I have to consider my teleology…

Do I want to get paid here? Am I worried about losing a client? Hmmm… possibly and not really…

In my head, I might think… Hmmm yes, that is quite the coincidence that suddenly your old, unattractive boss conveniently tranforms into the sexiest thing on two legs…right at the exact same moment that a promotion becomes available and you realise you need extra cash to clear your bills… Yup, you’re definitely, no doubt about it, soul mates! No of course you weren’t sleeping your way up the ladder… the old cliche of it’s not what you know, it’s who you blow… paying for your status by trading on your gash cash… no of course not! No… nothing smells at all fishy about that… If that’s the way you want to buff up your C.V. then that’s up to you…

Do I say that? Well… yes, there have been times… Though I probably say it more tactfully… But mostly I leave it unanswered and bounce it back for them to say what they see… It’s teleology… Any which way you want to dress it up, the end game is all about the story…

You see, when people are feeling lost and they are earnestly seeking changes, they tend to talk about the future… where they want to go… They may speak of the past and seek to understand events but again, it’s about moving fowards. Although about changes, it’s more about creating your own story… A story where you’re going to feel good about what you are going to be doing…

When people ask me questions along the lines of does his ex-wife know how long I’ve been seeing him? That’s not about the future… It’s not really about the past… Again, it’s about creating your own story… A story where you try to make yourself feel better about the things you’ve already done…
